A Procedural Justice Theory Approach to Police Engagement with Victim-Survivors of Rape and Sexual Assault: Initial Findings of the ‘Project Bluestone’ Pilot Study

Abstract In England and Wales, public trust in the police has been damaged by a series of failings rape sexual assault investigations, officer offending, culture misogyny. Feminist scholars have analysed why investigations cases rarely result charge documented poor experiences many victim-survivors process. this article, we outline how scholarship may be integrated into procedural justice theory to advance our understanding impact officers engage with on their feelings status value as survivors violence within nation society represent, well willingness (continue) engaging police, or report future victimisation. We present tentative evidence from pilot study (‘Project Bluestone’) one English force that suggests feminist informed Procedural Justice framework is promising tool for assessing improving practice assault. The article concludes directions research.
